THE VOYAGE

47,000 NAUTICAL MILES. 85 PORTS. 26 COUNTRIES.

Hōkūle‘a and Hikianalia, Polynesian voyaging canoes, are sailing across Earth’s oceans to join and grow the global movement toward a more sustainable world, covering 47,000 nautical miles, 85 ports, and 26 countries. Crew members on both the Hōkūle‘a and Hikiananlia will sail using the 3,000 year old traditional method of Polynesian deep sea navigation, with no modern instruments.

OluKai is honored to partner with the Worldwide Voyage and support the crew in their ambitious endeavor. The Hōkūle‘a represents a large part of OluKai’s company mission – honoring and preserving Hawaiian culture and traditions.

ARCHIE’S JOURNAL

OluKai Konohiki and legendary waterman, Archie Kalepa, will join the Hōkūle‘a for several legs of the journey. “When I joined the OluKai ‘Ohana full-time as a Konohiki, I merged my commitment to preserving our local culture and traditions with that of OluKai’s strong commitment and dedication to the Polynesian culture,” says Kalepa. “The Malama Honua mission to provide knowledge to help better protect our Earth and spread Aloha is something that is very near and dear to my heart. I feel blessed to be a part of it.”

Follow Archie’s journey on the Hōkūle‘a as he shares stories from the voyage.

THE ULTIMATE TEST

We recognize there are times when more support and stability are needed than a traditional three-point sandal can offer. At sea for months on end, covering thousands of miles of treacherous ocean and island environments, the crewmen aboard Hōkūle‘a require the very footwear features of our cage sandals.

With all-terrain comfort and relentless traction, OluKai’s adventure sandals are being put to the ultimate test aboard the worldwide voyage of Hōkūle‘a, with crew members exclusively wear-testing these styles.
